About Dr Adele Visser
Dr Adele Visser is a medical doctor and clinical pathologist with more than 20 years’ experience in both the public and private healthcare sectors. Based in Pretoria, South Africa, she offers specialist perimenopause and menopause care, while continuing her work as a clinical pathologist, interpreting laboratory investigations across disciplines such as virology, microbiology, haematology, chemical pathology and immunology.
She studied medicine at the University of Pretoria and completed her internship and community service at Witbank Hospital before specialising in Clinical Pathology. During her specialist training, she also completed a postgraduate diploma in Transfusion Medicine through the University of the Free State, as well as a diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Dr Visser’s medical foundation is rigorous and deeply scientific – but it is also practical. She understands how valuable blood tests are – and equally, what they can and cannot explain on their own.
Why menopause care?
As a mother of two teenagers, many of Dr Visser’s conversations happen in ordinary spaces – school runs, chats with friends, and everyday interactions. It was during these conversations that Dr Visser noticed a pattern: intelligent, capable women struggling with symptoms they could not explain, often feeling unheard or told that their results were “normal”.
As a pathologist, Dr Visser knew that laboratory values are only one part of a much bigger picture. She also knew that menopause and perimenopause are natural stages of life that do not always fit neatly into test results.
Rather than rely on assumption or informal knowledge, she chose to pursue formal training in menopause medicine through the North American Menopause Society (NAMS), where she qualified as a Certified Menopause Practitioner. She now works as a menopause specialist in Pretoria. For Dr Visser, structured education and evidence-based medicine are essential foundations of responsible care.
A thoughtful, research-informed approach
Dr Visser has always been deeply committed to research and evidence-based practice. She reads widely, keeps up to date with emerging menopause research, and approaches each patient’s care with curiosity and careful analysis.
Her background in pathology means she is comfortable working with data, noticing patterns, and interpreting results thoroughly. But she also knows that numbers alone do not define how a woman feels.
In her menopause practice, she brings these strengths together – careful scientific thinking alongside attentive listening.
A safe, collaborative space
At the heart of Dr Visser’s practice is a simple principle: women deserve to be heard.
Menopause and perimenopause are universal stages of life that affect every woman differently. They are not weaknesses, and they are not imaginary. There is no single test that defines your experience, and no single solution that suits everyone.
Consultations are unhurried and conversational. Dr Visser listens carefully to your symptoms, your concerns and what you hope to gain from the consultation. She considers your blood test results alongside your lived experience and works with you to develop a personalised, evidence-based care plan. This may include lifestyle guidance, symptom management strategies, and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) where appropriate.
Women deserve to feel heard. They deserve clear explanations. And they deserve medical care that takes both science and lived experience seriously.
Dr Visser’s aim is simple: to support women in navigating perimenopause and menopause with clarity, confidence and sound medical guidance.
